The competition is open to all B.C. college and university students as well as young professionals within 2 years of graduation. Participants will have to apply in teams of 2 or 3, with at least one technical person on the team.

Contest Requirements

- Submissions have to be entered by a team of 2 or 3.
- Each team must have at least one person with technical background. The technical person either needs to be enrolled in a computer science program or equivalent or have sufficient working knowledge of programming to be able to develop a product or prototype of the product.
- Each team must be composed of undergraduate, graduate or alumni students within two years of graduation.
- Each video submission must be no more than one minute long. Video submissions over the allowed time will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Competing businesses/ideas must be in the preliminary stages of development
- Companies that exist prior to the SSC involvement who merely recruit a student to become eligible for the competition, are not eligible to compete for the prizes and the competition. The SSC is an educational experience and teams not working towards this end may be disqualified. Launch Academy reserves the right to review companies on a case-by-case basis and decide on eligibility accordingly. - Example of an eligible team: A team of students who are the originators of the startup idea. The team is composed of two students from a computer science program and one student from the business administration program.
- Example of an ineligible team: A Vancouver-based startup recruited a student team to work on a particular feature of their startup. The students are not the originators of the idea.
- All participants of SSC must be at least 16 years of age.
- Winning team are expected to participate in the SSC program at Launch Academy and complete the program's deliverables from June to September

Judging Criteria
(The top 10 teams with the most votes will enter the second round of judging. Judges include Boris Wertz, Meredith Powell, Jonathan Bixby, Greg Caws, and Kiranjit Sidhu)
- Startup Viability: How viable is your idea? Is there a market for it? Does it solve a realistic pain? Is it within the boundaries of reality?
- Originality: How unique and original is your idea? How is it different from your competitors?
- Potential: How big is your target market? How disruptive can it be?
